“Reed, let me take care of the directing. You need only concern yourself with playing the lead.”
After graduating from high school in Calgary, Alberta in 1990, Reed has since resided in Vancouver, Montreal, New York City for eight years and recently in Toronto. He is an actor, writer and filmmaker based in Toronto and New York.
Reed made his acting debut at age 10 as the lead in his school's Christmas play. Upon reflection he recalls being told by his director, “Reed, let me take care of the directing. You need only concern yourself with playing the lead.” A full immersion and exploration of the arts ensued with subsequent acting roles, receiving many accolades and winning awards for his student plays, talent shows, musical performances and independent productions alike.
He began formal training in Vancouver with Shea Hampton’s Acting From Source, while earning a degree in the Arts from Langara College. Soon after, he attended The Company of Rogues Actor’s Studio in Calgary. In 1999, he studied classical theatre at the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. Shortly after, Reed moved to New York where he studied acting at Carnegie Hall for three years under renowned and esteemed teachers Fred Kareman and Wynn Handman. These gentlemen provided him with an eclectic and comprehensive exploration of the acting process, resulting in the expansion of his capacities as a versatile and dynamic character actor.
Reed has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as the First Murderer and Lennox the Nobleman in Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’, directed by Adrian Noble. He has also performed in numerous Off Broadway productions and distinguished himself in such performances as David in the highly regarded original comedy ‘How to Speak Woman’, as Franz in a production of Arthur Schnitzler's ‘La Ronde’, and as an Athenian Orator in ‘Lysistrata.’ Other notable performances are as Lysander in a summer stock production of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, and as Eddie in ‘Fool for Love’.
